THE ROSES SHALL CELEBRATE (Poem By Billy Alsbrooks)

THE ROSES SHALL CELEBRATE

Poem By: Billy Alsbrooks

Who wants to be a third wheel,

in a drone world?

______________________________________

Today’s modern couture,

dark and shallow lies

Oh how we’ve all become such pretty little liars

Underneath the Snapchat filters,

all the dolls are empty

Not an ounce of talent,

Just famous for being famous

I guess that’s just a reflection of where society is

But I need more

______________________________________

Hollow fires burn common people

Maybe I just expect too much

Need too much

Want too much from people who can never live up to who I want them to be?

As I enter into this strange season of contrast

The wolves are watching

But no matter how scared I feel

I refuse to live in dead arms any longer

______________________________________

My heart shall swim

Swim away from broken shores and venture into the unknown

For fear shall no longer know me

Because tonight,

Tonight I shall rule the world

______________________________________

Between the shades of gray,

I found a colorful love

A wonderful love

A love that loved me too much to let me be normal

______________________________________

This gorgeous burning love,

She’s honest

She never once asked me to apologize for being me

On the contrary,

She encouraged me to challenge the mirror

To stand firm in the reflection of my own truth

Her lips kissed me with such hope

Such hope that I started to believe again

Dream again

Believe in a merciful loving God again

Together,

Together we threw our pennies into the fountain of silence

And there,

There we heard it all

______________________________________

Before we were strangers,

We knew each other

Long ago,

At the very beginning of what mortals call time

We knew each other

Before sin had even been given a name,

You and I

You and I knew each other

______________________________________

As I enter into this strange season of contrast

The wolves are watching

But no matter how scared I feel

I refuse to live in dead arms any longer

As algorithms seek to numb us,

you are a different shade of beautiful

A different shade of separation

So I need to say this to you right now

I’m not responsible for what your desires make me do to you

You know you’re with the right one, when just their presence has the power to change your breathing

Has the power to give tired lungs a reason to inhale again

______________________________________

Come,

Come let us do life together in a way that’s it’s never been done before

Before we were strangers,

We knew each other

But this time

When our stars collide,

the roses shall celebrate…
