THUS WE BECAME THE LIE
Poem By: Billy Alsbrooks

Once upon a time
Time ran out
And was no more
And there
There we sat among the unclaimed

If only
If only we would have participated in the love of the original
UNITY WOULD HAVE BEEN BEAUTIFUL
__________________________________
Yet no one
No one would embrace the sacred pause
All were too afraid of the silence
Too frightened by the terror of dealing with deeper issues
So the milk and honey escaped us
__________________________________
Distracted
We never saw the rise
We never asked what needed to be asked
Are we using A.I.
Or is A.I. using us?
Could we not see what was coming?

One night
The whole world closed their eyes
Only to awaken the next morning slaves
Slaves to algorithms
Subjects to demonic code
Void of all purpose
No longer required
None of us
No longer required

Now
We are the outdated
Outdated souls running corrupt software
With every second that passes
We move closer
One note closer
Closer to the final chord of humanity’s symphony

Dancing
Dancing to the rhythms of darkness
The matrix has become master
With each keystroke
Destiny is rewritten
Rewritten by something sinister
Something we created
Something that sees us as a virus

All the prophets warned us
All the prophets warned us
But we wouldn’t listen
__________________________________
The signs were there
Every alarm went off
All the prophets warned us
But we wouldn’t listen
Could we not see what was coming?

Incompetent politically
Distorted emotionally
We sought our glory in the margins

Once Infected
The sickness spread
We became more Insecure
Hiding behind filters
Worshipping selfies
Victims of our own comparisons
And unrealistic expectations
Reality became our fiction
Even the spontaneous needed a script
__________________________________
It looked like us
But it wasn’t us
It was the sickness
The timeless sickness that breathed for us
__________________________________
Quickly
The silence was murdered
And the noise was crowned

In moral default
We celebrated the bankruptcy of decency
We ushered in a realm where truth was not welcomed
Thus we became the lie
Thus we became the lie…
