FOUNTAIN OF SILENCE
Poem By: Dr. Billy Alsbrooks

When you look at me
What “I” do you see me through?
When you listen to me
What fountain of silence do you drink from?
Can your dust breathe the calm of my rainbow?
I didn’t think so
Long live the invisible

Is there a chair for me?
A chair that will allow you to sit with me
Is it natural to be so standoffish?
I guess that’s why we’re still punching air?
I guess that’s why you still misspell my name?
I hate this feeling
Long live the suffering

Is there a song for me?
A song that will tell the world how I feel inside
Which song sums you up best?
If I sang it, would it still give you chills?
Or would you seek another voice to lie to?
Is he the one you’re singing with?
Long live the charade

Is there a book for me?
A book that will explain my insecurities?
Which book would you go on a date with?
Would it’s pages ravish your skin like I do?
Is that why you left me?
How could you fall in love with such a tragedy?
Long live the fiction

When you look at me
What “I” do you see me through?
Is your “I” yours or just his mistakes?
It’s like I don’t know you anymore
Did the days I spent with you even exist?
Can a person imagine something so real?
Long live the dream
