BENEATH US
Poem By: Billy Alsbrooks

Phantoms
My cracks are beginning to show
Can you see them?
If I show you the scars will you exploit them?
What’s the difference between strange and different?
I don’t know, but I’ll get back to you
Monogamy is so beneath us
____________________________
I promise to treat you better than they could ever treat you wrong
Turn that into a song, a hit song
If we’re going to dance, let’s dance in truth
If we’re going to kiss, then let’s make up lies
This way we can hide our real intentions
Guilt is so beneath us
Guilt is so beneath us
____________________________
Who let you down?
Who pretended to be more than they were?
Kind of a trick question wasn’t it?
You weren’t sure if I meant you or them
Maybe you should think about that before you sleep with them?
Just because they took you to an expensive restaraunt, doesn’t make them a five star soul
But being judgmental is so beneath us

Phantoms
My patience is being tested
How long can I wait to find meaning?
Shall the lords of Gucci be our masters?
Let us all gather for the Parade of Mannequins
While Hollywood tells us we’re not real
Empty stars that shine with nothingness, surreal
Famous is so beneath us
Famous is so beneath us…
