EMOTIONAL PIÑATA
Poem By Billy Alsbrooks

A violent unpredictability
Laced with moments of distortion
Suddenly out of the mouth of chaos comes a possibility
Some small rare unlikely possibility

A broken man filled with brilliant ideas
Abused by the very monsters he tries to save
Sometimes he wonders
Sometimes he wonders what he’s even fighting for?

I’ll give you the sun
You’ll be the death of me
I’ll give you the moon
You’ll be the breath in me
But one thing’s for certain,
There’s no way home
That ship sailed long ago
_________________________________________
Life is strange
Strangely vindictive
Yet under all the pain
The flowers still bloom
Somewhere out there
The flowers still bloom
_________________________________________
I’ll give you the moon
You’ll be the breath in me
I’ll give you the sun
You’ll be the death of me
But one thing’s for certain,
There’s no way home
That ship sailed long ago

I still love the secrets we keep
The ugly our mouths know
Just don’t open that door
Please
Please don’t open that door

I speak the language
The sacred language of branches
While their hands swing bats
I play the emotional piñata
Screaming
Dying
Bleeding all my candy
Swinging through the day with my sides open
I’m hurt,
But I love you
I’m hurt,
But I love you

Sometimes he wonders
Sometimes he wonders what he’s even fighting for?
Sometimes he wonders
Emotional Piñata…
