TIED IN THE CORNER
Poem By: Dr. Billy Alsbrooks

Seeking approval, needing others to love myself.
Tied in the corner, I was that child.
Taken advantage of, hard to reconcile.
Craving applause, I’m uneasy with myself.
Chasing ghosts, haunted by my truth.
People stare at me, I’ve got nothing to lose.
Where’s the praise that I need to feed the hunger in my veins?
Nullify the pain, swallowing words of validation.
Inspiration, inner peace seems to allude me.
Mouth full of bitterness, please excuse me.
Forgive the betrayer, she ran from the light.
Dragon slayer slain by Miami nights.
Seeking approval, yet to forgive myself.
Tied in the corner, I was that child.
Rejected by them, why am I not good enough?
Can’t forgive, I’m a slave to the small stuff.
Lover’s Tylenol, emotional band aides.
Her shady ways, cat thief of days.
Unescapable, the enigma of her emotional maze.
Tied in the corner, I was that child.
Why am I not good enough???
