BREATHLESS FLOWERS
Poem By: Dr. Billy Alsbrooks

The expensive possibilities of color give way to forbidden whispers
I roar with defiance through the halls of the establishment
My enormous thirst for change has pitted me against them
But I refuse to be swallowed by their rejection
Their breathless flowers leave the garden so void
Without apology I join the cult of the new
My mind shall not borrow their timid eyes to see
I steer my steps toward the frontier of impossible
Daring to get in the ring with timeless truths
Questioning all their sacred held beliefs
I journey to the darker reaches of the soul
Refusing to bang on the door for acceptance
Their empire of authority collapsing on itself
As they succumb to the rise of the Avant-Garde
Having no appetite for their tyranny of respectability
Storming the bastions of tradition, I seek life beyond the veil
Breathless flowers…
